STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: Hydronic system performance is highly dependent on the quality of the system fill water, both from an efficiency and longevity standpoint. In this presentation, we will examine the hydronic system and the quality of the water used to fill it. In most applications municipal or well water on site is used to fill the hydronic system. Domestic water may be suitable to consume but due to pH, hardness or other compounds dissolved in the water, the water may have adverse effects on the system. We will look at how these compounds enter the water and the potential problems that dissolved compounds present to the system. Additionally, we will look at the various methods of removing these compounds either in the fill process or through chemical addition. Finally, the various common additives for hydronic systems will be presented.

WEBINAR DESCRIPTION: This one-hour presentation will explore solar thermal water heating as it applies to domestic hot water production for residential applications with a review of basic solar principles and site considerations for optimum collector performance.
